Utaka nominated for Danish award

Odense of Denmark striker Peter Utaka has been nominated for the Danish Superliga Player of the Year award, Danish Daily Ekstra Bladet reported on Monday.

The fringe Super Eagles forward will compete for the award in November with three FC Copenhagen players – Senegalese Dame N‘Doye, William Kvist and Atiba Hutchinson.

The categories for the awards are The SuperLiga Player of the Year, Coach of the Year and the Best Young Player award.

Utaka, younger sibling of Portsmouth‘s John Utaka, has been impressive in the Danish topflight since he moved to Odense from Belgian side Antwerp in 2008.

He has scored a total of 48 goals in 84 matches for Odense and last season, he scored 18 goals in 33 league matches to emerge as top scorer in Denmark. He has scored 11 goals in all competitions this season.

Ajax‘s Christian Eriksen, Leverkusen‘s Nicolai Jorgensen, Jens Larsen Strings of Brondby and FC Midtjylland‘s Jonas Lössl have been nominated for the best young player award.
