Amuneke advises Eagles

Former Super Eagles player, Emmanuel Amuneke

A former Super Eagles winger, Emmanuel Amuneke, on Wednesday in Lagos advised current members of the Eagles to be more committed to improving their profile.

Amuneke told the News Agency of Nigeria that it was only through hard work and consistency that the team could improve its declining profile.

The former Barcelona attacker also said that the Eagles had to be realistic in their projections for future matches.

He said, “One of the problems with our football right now is that we talk too much.

“The only way we can rightly be described as the giants of African football is through our performance on the field of play and not on the pages of newspapers.

“Our players would have to lift the level of their game and work together for the success of the team.”

Amuneke, a member of the Eagles team who won the Tunisia 1994 Africa Cup of Nations, also cautioned domestic league players aspiring to play in Europe to be patient.

“My advice to these budding talents is for them to be patient, while doing so they should work harder and polish their game,” he said.

“Their orientation must be that of a true professional in all sense of the word and worthy ambassadors of our league.”

The proprietor of Emmanuel Amuneke Football Academy told NAN that the academy was set up to harness the next generation of Nigerian footballers.
