The Ondo State Governor Olusegun Mimiko has agreed to sponsor a pre-season league involving eight football clubs in the South-West. The tournament is scheduled to begin in Ijebu-Ode and Abeokuta on Wednesday.
According to the Executive Director of the Ondo State Football Agency, Mike Idoko, eight teams grouped into two zones will compete for honours.
He said, ”The tournament is to help the teams get into competitive edge as the season is about to start.
”The aim is to ensure the teams in the South-West are adequately prepared for the new season.”
Sunshine Stars of Akure, Crown of Ogbomosho, Gateway of Abeokuta and Julius Berger of Lagos are grouped at the Ijebu-Ode centre while Shooting Stars of Ibadan, Prime of Osogbo, Rising Stars of Akure and FC Ebedei will slug it out at the Abeokuta centre.
The winners and runners up will play in the semifinal while the final match will be decided in Akure, where the governor is expected to be the special guest.
