FG re-affirms commitment to non-oil sector development

The Federal Government has said that it is committed to the development of the country’s non-oil sector.

President Goodluck Jonathan gave the assurance during the opening ceremony of the Nigeria Non-Oil Conference, Exhibition and Awards in Abuja.

He noted that the Federal Government was committed to addressing the problem of poor infrastructure in order to fast-track industrial development.

Jonathan, who was represented by the Minister of Commerce and Industry, Senator Jubril Martins-Kuye, stressed that the emergence of the petroleum sector as the mainstay of the nation’s economy had resulted in the neglect of the non-oil sector, adding that the Federal Government was committed to reversing the trend.

He said, “The non-oil sector of the Nigerian economy has traditionally played a vital role in our national economic development, particularly in the area of providing foreign exchange earnings and revenue for government.
