The Nigeria Football Federation has shortlisted Tunisia’94 Nations Cup winners Stephen Keshi and Samson Siasia for the vacant Super Eagles job.
A member of the NFF Deji Tinubu said after the federation board meeting in Abuja on Wednesday that Keshi and Siasia would be interviewed for the job by the technical committee.
The committee constituted on Wednesday has Christian Chukwu, Victor Ikpeba, Austin Okocha, Paul Bassey, Segun Odegbami and others as members. The former Lagos State Sports Council Chairman however said the committee would be inaugurated on November 2.
Heartland coach Siasia was on the verge of clinching a deal to manage the Eagles earlier in the year but the NFF suspended talks with him after both parties could not agree on a fee.
The court case that followed the election that brought the Aminu Maigari board to office further worsened the situation, as Austin Eguavoen was made to take charge of the team on a caretaker basis.
Former Togo coach Keshi, who has remained jobless since he quit as Mali manager after the Angola 2010 Nations Cup finals, has since declared his interest in coaching the Eagles.
The former Flying Eagles coach was Shaibu Amodu‘s assistant when Nigeria qualified for the Korea/Japan 2002 World Cup. Both were sacked before the competition.
Tinubu said the Premier League would kick off on November 6, adding that the NFF had decided to resolve the disputed Nigeria Premier League Chairmanship election.
According to him, the NPL Chairman Davidson Owumi and Bayelsa United Chairman Rumson Baribote, who has consistently rejected the April election that brought Owumi to office, have been invited for a peace meeting by the NFF.
Tinubu said the NFF Annual General Meeting had been scheduled to take place in Uyo, Akwa Ibom and that a date would be fixed for the state football association elections.
