Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), on Thursday assured that the accreditation issue at the Lagos State University, Ojo would not affect the course of development of its students. A statement by Fashola’s Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Hakeem Bello, said the governor spoke in an interview with newsmen after delivering the fourth Lateef Femi Okunnu Annual Lecture at the Oduduwa Hall of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State. Fashola, who spoke on ‘Democratic Consolidation and Good Governance in Nigeria - Myth or Reality,’ said the students were admitted lawfully with valid accreditation. The governor explained that he had a similar experience as an udnergraduate at the University of Benin, when the National Universities Commission threatened to withdraw the accreditation of the law faculty because it lacked the required number of professors. Fashola, who spoke against the background of a resolution passed by members of the state house of assembly calling for the sacking of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Lateef Hussein, said the main issue was the interest of the students. “The most important thing is to find out why the accreditation has been suspended because it could encompass a combination of human capacity, lecturer capacity and even availability. These are things to be checked and see if it can be remedied in the short term and where it came from,” he said. Source:http://www.punchng.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art201010293374178 | |||
