Power: Jonathan promises adequate funding

The President Jonathan
The Federal Government will inject more funds into the power sector due to its multiplier effects on national development, President Goodluck Jonathan has said.

The President made the remark at the inauguration of the new 150mVA/330/132/33kVA power transformer at the Mando Power Transmission Station in Kaduna on Tuesday.

He said adequate power generation remained top on his administration‘s agenda due to its ability to stimulate economic development.

Jonathan said that the Federal Government was committed to meeting the electricity demands of Nigerians.

He said that this was the reason behind the decision of the administration to make the improvement of the nation’s power sector top priority, especially because of the crucial role regular supply of electricity could play in the socio-economic and industrial development of the country.

According to him, in line with his administration’s desire to provide Nigerians with regular power supply, the Federal Government has injected so much funds into the various efforts aimed at tackling the problem of power failure in the country.

This, Jonathan said, would enable Nigeria to emerge as a modern country and play its expected role in the comity of nations.

The President said, “This event, to me, is a historic one because the project is an important part of the entire transmission infrastructure in Kaduna, currently being reinforced in order to cope with the increasing demand for electricity in the northern part of this country.

Also, President Jonathan has asked wealthy Nigerians to contribute to the socio-economic and industrial growth of the country by sponsoring projects that will improve the well-being of the citizenry.

The President said this while on a one-day official visit to Kano State on Tuesday where he inaugurated the N100m Isyaku Rabiu Peadiatric Ward and the Renal Dialysis Centre at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital.

He particularly advised wealthy Nigerians to take a cue from the two wealthy Nigerians, who sponsored the building.
