HIBISCUS rosa sinensis, family malyaceae is widely grown as an ornamental plant throughout the tropics and subtropics. This large shrub or small tree grows to 15 feet high.
An evergreen, nothing conjures the warmth of our tropical regions more than the hibiscus. The most commonly grown species or original varieties is Hibiscus rosa sinensis, with its large scarlet, trumpet-shaped flowers, from the center of which thrusts a long tongue of yellow- anthered stamens. Its original home is East Asia.
Left alone, this large shrub or small tree can grow up to over 4 metres (13 ft). The plant has a coarse texture and may be upright or broad and spreading. It’s often many – stemmed.
