After three weeks of a breathe taking contest Joann Efembe Ene-Ita, a Dentistry student of the University of Port Harcourt emerged the 2010 Miss University Nigeria, in Makurdi the Benue State capital.
The contest which was the fourth in the series was witnessed by a massive crowd that cheered the queens as they did their thing in grand style to the admiration of all those who thronged the IBB Square in Makurdi from within and outside the state to savour the show.
The crowd who had routed for a local and queen of the Benue State University Miss Maureen Mlumun Tarkohol, a Theatre Arts student, went home disappointed but satisfied that the event was a huge success.
At the end of the day, results had to be read out by the panel of judges led by Mr. Guy Murray- Bruce and in the order of placements Miss Edidiong Uko, an Architectural Student of the University of Uyo was the third runner up, with Miss Teresa Ibemere of the University of Benin as the second runner up.
When the name of the first runner up was announced, the entire square went up in wild celebration, as the crowd thought that the first runner up was the winner of the pageant, but it was not to be. The first runner up was home crowd favorite, Miss Maureen Mlumun Tarkohol, a Theatre Arts student of the Benue State University, Makurdi.
Kudos must be given to the Benue State First Lady who gave her best to ensure that the event met all acceptable standards and that organizers and participating queens had a swell time in the state and the contest was transparent as possible.
