Steer Clear Of Office, Fayemi Warns Sacked Council Chairmen

GOVERNOR Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State yesterday issued a fresh warning to the sacked local government chairmen in the state to steer clear of council secretariats, saying whoever felt short-changed by his action should seek redress in court. But the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state insisted that the former council bosses will resume when the secretariats are reopened.
Fayemi, who spoke through his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Mojeed Jamiu, said security agencies were fully on the ground to quell any uprising in the state.
Jamiu, also denied the allegation that Fayemi led the new caretaker chairman of Oye-Ekiti local council to forcefully take over the council secretariat. He explained that the governor lived in Isan-Ekiti and had to pass through Oye-Ekiti any time he was on his way to the Governor’s Office in Ado-Ekiti because that was the only route.
The council secretariats are still under lock and key on the directive of the state Commissioner of Police, Mr  kakwe Chris Katso to prevent further breakdown of law and orders that was witnessed in virtually all the local governments on Thursday.
Heavily armed policemen were seen stationed at the entrances of the main gates in all the local government secretariats visited yesterday. Katso disclosed to newsmen yesterday in Ado- Ekiti during a visit to his office along Iyin Road, that the policemen would remain in all the local councils as long as there is threat to public peace.
Meanwhile, the two warring political parties , the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and PDP, have not changed their stand on the dissolution. While the ACN believes that the matter is a foregone conclusion and would not be reversed, the PDP maintains that it would continue to fight on by ordering the dissolved councils’ chairmen to return to their respective offices as soon as the councils are opened for operation.
The PDP Director of Communications and Strategy, Mr Jackson Adebayo vowed that the sacked chairmen would resume at their duty posts as soon as the police reopened the local governments.
