GOVERNORS of the 36 states of the federation started arriving in Abuja, the nation’s capital yesterday for what has been described as a crucial meeting on the raging leadership crisis in the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF).
The NGF Secretariat and the Kwara State Government’s Lodge were beehives of activities as preparations were under way to host the state chief executives.
The meeting was slated for 8.00 p.m. where the governors will name a replacement for Kwara State Governor Bukola Saraki, who has joined the presidential race under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
It was also learnt that earlier yesterday, most of the governors arrived at the Kwara State Lodge where they consulted with Saraki on the way forward for the forum.
Although the stage had been set for the election of a replacement for Saraki, the selection of Governor Gbenga Daniel of Ogun State as the new chair of the NGF by 17 PDP governors led by Gabriel Suswam of Benue State came under fierce attack from their colleagues, who described their conduct as undemocratic.
Also yesterday, Daniel said he did not ask anybody to make him the NGF chairman.
Promptly, Saraki issued a statement, inviting the governors to yesterday’s meeting to resolve the impasse.
