Haruna Babangida
Former Junior international, Haruna Babangida, has traversed Europe in order to make a name for himself in the beautiful game. He tells Adekunle Salami, who was in Germany to watch his Bundesliga team – Mainz –relinquish their top spot last weekend, how he has been trying to achieve his dream.
After spending over 15 years in Europe, Haruna Babangida is yet to make it big as expected in the club and international games. His brother, Tijjani Babangida, had a successful career with Ajax of Holland and the Super Eagles.
Haruna only made impact at junior national level; he never made it in the Super Eagles as expected.
He was in the Barcelona reserve team for three years with the likes of Figo and Ronaldo denying him a first team shirt. He left for Ukraine, where he spent just seven months after which he again moved to Olympiakos of Greece.
