A Bundesliga Lesson For Nigerian Football

GERMANY'S unexpected successful South Africa 2010 World Cup campaign with its youngest-ever team at the tournament has sparked plenty of interest in the strategy that turned the fortune of the country’s football around, especially its youth development system, and the marketing strategies.
That strategy, according to officials of the Bundesliga, Germany’s football league, is a product of far-sighted planning based on the disappointment with the quality of players the country had after its success at the Italia 1990 World Cup.  It has also been helped by the recognition of the benefit of development for the national team along with a strong economic incentive to prioritise young domestic talent.
