FORMER President Olusegun Obasanjo of Nigeria is to be honoured with Africa’s telecommunications award for an individual for his foresight and the exemplary role he played in bringing about the Nigerian telecom revolution, which has brought previously unimaginable developments on all sectors of the country’s life as well as attendant spin-offs across the African continent.
The honour, under the auspices of the African Telecom Hall of Fame Awards will be presented at a colourful evening on November 5, 2010 at the Eko Hotel, Lagos.
Organisers of the African Telecom Hall of Fame Awards, IT & Telecom Digest, in a statement explained that the choice of President Obasanjo was natural and very well in tune with the tenets of the African Telecom Hall of Fame Lecture Series, which include special recognition for individuals, institutions and corporate bodies for exemplary contributions to the growth of telecom in their countries in particular and the African continent as a whole.
