NLC Chief join senatorial race in Edo

Deputy President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Mr. Peter Irabor, has declared his intention to run for the Edo Central Senatorial district in 2011.

Isele, a former President-General of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria confirmed his ambition to our correspondent in a telephone interview on Sunday.

He said, “I have inaugurated my campaign to represent Edo Central Senatorial District, and the progress so far achieved by the governor of the state, Mr. Adams Oshiomhole attests to the fact that activists could salvage the country.”

The NLC deputy president also called on other labour leaders and activities to seek elective offices in next year’s election, saying their involvement was needed to move the country forward.

Isele said, Nigerian leaders have turned themselves into tin gods with deceit on the people and in the process dragged the country into chaos, contrary to the wishes and expectations of the masses. It is only credible leadership through a free and fair election that can assist us to bring about better lives for the rural people and Nigerians as a whole. If there is no change, corruption will continue and the people will suffer.”
