Nigeria’s position as the world’s most populous black nation is not in doubt, neither is its leadership in contributing to peace-keeping operations in trouble spots across the world.

From the civil strife in the Belgian Congo in the 1960s to the civil wars in Liberia and Sierra Leone, Nigerian troops have made positive impressions.
