NIGERIA got a total of 1191 points to finish 14th at the just-concluded MTN Golfers Championship, which held in Hua Hin, Thailand.
Though the team faced difficult conditions in the four-day championship, it so distinguished itself that officials of the team believe that given ideal conditions, Nigeria would have done far better.
Speaking on Nigeria’s performance at the championship, team captain, Eddie Peters, queried the criteria for the competition, saying that some teams got undeserved accolades because things were made easy for them. Peters was particularly piqued by Russia’s victory on technical grounds, stating that the win was a fluke.
He was sad that the players were not allowed to play with their regular handicap, with some of them getting new handicaps in the middle of the tourney. Questioning the scoring system, Peters said: “I do not understand the scoring, though I have been playing golf for over 50 years.
