Despite a ruling by Mohammed Idris, judge of the Federal High Court in Lagos, declaring that the arrest of James Tillery, the former Chief Executive Officer of Wilbros International Incorporated is illegal and unconstitutional, the Nigerian Police has not yet released him.
The judge gave the ruling on August 31, in a suit filed by Mr Tillery’s lawyers following his arrest three weeks earlier, on August 13.
Mr Tillery’s arrest was based on the request of Interpol which placed the former Wilbros boss on its ‘Red Notice no A-2996/69-009’. Two days after his arrest, there was an attempt to whisk him out through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, allegedly by operatives of the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI). The attempt was, however, resisted by Nigerian immigration officials at the airport.
