Yola stands still for Buhari

Business activities were brought to a standstill in Yola yesterday as former military ruler and presidential aspirant of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) retired General Muhammadu Buhari visited the city amidst tight security. Yola and environs went agog as thousands of party supporters welcomed Buhari to CPC rally.

Buhari was in Yola to receive decampees and commission the party’s state headquarters on Galadima Aminu Road. The rally was also aimed at mobilising grassroots support for the party.
Those that decamped to the CPC include the first Adamawa State governor Alh. Saleh Michika, former Health Commissioner Dr Zainab Baba Kwonchi as well as the member representing Maiha constituency among others.
Traffic was brought to a standstill as the Buhari campaign train moved from the Yola International Airport to the heart of the city and to the Mahmudu Ribadu Square in Jimeta as the cheering crowd chanted the party songs, describing Buhari as the leader that can take the nation to greater heights.
Our correspondent observed that the rally nearly obstructed Buba Marwa’s declaration and owing to the magnitude of the crowd, General Buhari was unable to come out of his vehicle to address the rally in Yola town and when he appeared from the top of his car to acknowledge cheers, his supporters continued to praise him and surged towards his vehicle.
Addressing the supporters, Buhari said the CPC was the party of people of integrity and honour. He also charged voters to desist from being influenced by money.
He noted that the attendance at the Yola rally showed that the CPC is for the people, and that people are still with them.
