Emenike, Onuoha relevant to Eagles – Ugbade

Tunisia‘94 Nations Cup winner Nduka Ugbade believes the Europe-based duo of Emmanuel Emenike and Nedum Onuoha have something to offer and has hailed Super Eagles coach Samson Siasia‘s decision to involve them in his plans.

The former Golden Eaglets captain maintains Emenike could help provide the cutting edge the Eagles need in front of goal, and Onuoha the solution to their leaky defence.

Karabükspor striking sensation Emenike only last week pledged his international future to Nigeria, turning down an opportunity to play for Turkey after a meeting with Siasia in the Eastern European country.

Siasia was scheduled to meet with Sunderland defender Onuoha, who has represented England at the junior levels, to persuade him to play for Nigeria but the heavy snow in England forced him to suspend the meeting.

Speaking with our correspondent on the telephone on Wednesday, Ugbade said with Emenike and Onuoha in the team Nigerians would be guaranteed good performances from the Eagles at competitions.

”We were known for speed, endurance and individual creativity in the past and I think with players like Emenike and Onuoha we can return to the top again,” the FIFA U-17 World Cup winner said.

”We already have Taye Taiwo who is effective and gifted with shooting abilities. And there‘s (Elderson) Echiejile who is a very good player.

”I support Siasia‘s decision to invite new players.

”With new players, the old ones know they have to improve their game or lose their places.

”Every department of the national team requires strengthening – I believe every Nigerian knows this.

”Siasia was a great player for Nigeria and knows what it takes to build a strong team.

”I‘m not surprised at his decision. I believe Nigerians will be happy with the national team again.”

He however warned Siasia against focusing on the foreign-based players, saying the domestic league could have some players capable of breaking into the main team.

”It‘s not every player that plies his trade in Europe that is invited to play for Brazil,” Ugbade said.

”We‘ve seen some of the top foreign-based Brazilian stars warming the bench for home-based players.”

”We can do the same in our country to enable us to get the right players for competitions.”
