Siasia was tasks by Brodericks over league players

The 1985 U-17 World Cup Golden Eaglets winning coach Sebastian Brodricks has charged Super Eagles head coach Samson Siasia on the role of domestic league players in the national team.

Brodricks, a former international, advised the Bayelsa-born tactician not to rush the domestic league players into the national team set-up.

He said, ”I am happy he (Siasia) is already going around to watch domestic league players but he has to take it easy because he cannot pack all the greenhorns to play in the national team.

”But they could have a second team since they are going to have some local coaches to assist him. They can saddle some of them with grooming the younger players. That is how it is done in countries like England. They have their reserve team.

”So when a player in the first team is injured or has problems, you bring in one or two others from the reserve team. It’s not a rule that they must all play. They need sometime to blend into the team.”

Brodricks added that Siasia‘s experience as a player and coach would come in handy in managing the Eagles.

”Luckily enough, he has played as a professional outside the country. And the boys he used at junior levels are doing very well outside the country. So he has everything for people to respect him.

”When you have not played and coached, it gives players the chance to cash on you. But he was a disciplined player, though he was tough when he was playing,” Brodricks added.

Brodricks, who also led the Eaglets to a second-place finish at the Canada ‘87 U-17 World Cup, drummed support for Siasia‘s assistant, the Dutchman Simon Kalika.

”Both of them have worked together for some years now. So if Siasia feels Kalika is his best man, there‘s nothing wrong with that. Let‘s give them a chance,” he said.
