Edo governor loses wife

The Government of Edo State has announced the death of Clara Oshiomhole, wife of the governor of the state, Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole. She was 54 years old.


Mrs. Oshiomhole, nee Akharagbon, passed on at 10:53pm yesterday at the Abuja Clinic, Maitama.
"Until her death, she was a solid pillar behind her husband, through his days as a frontline labour activist and through the struggle to reclaim his mandate freely given to him by the good people of Edo State," a statement signed by Pally Iriase, Secretary to the State Government, said.
She was the initiator of the Health Foundation for Maternal and Child Care, a pet project which is aimed at providing quality healthcare for pregnant women and the girl-child.
Mr Iriase said condolence registers have been opened at the Government House, Benin City; the State Secretariat, Benin City; Edo House, Abuja and Edo State Liaison office, Victoria Island, Lagos.
She is survived by five children - Cyril, Winnie, Jane, Steve and Adams Jnr.
