NBA faults federal character in appointing judges

IT may seem plausible and addressing Nigeria’s varied interests, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) is not well disposed to the adoption of the federal character policy in the appointment of judges.
The association advised the two-tiers of government not to hide under the guise of “federal character in the appointment of judges to enthrone mediocrity and crass judicial incompetence.”
At the fourth yearly conference of NBA Section on Legal Practice (SLP), it also called for a better execution of the fight against corruption in the country.
In a statement issued at the end of the meeting in Calabar, Cross River State at the weekend, NBA said: “In spite of the concerted efforts by the anti-corruption agencies, Nigeria is yet to make appreciable gains
The conference, therefore, urged the government “to make the fight against corruption more thorough and total.”
