Anambra donates N10m more to school

Succour has come the way of Saint Mary the Virgin Convent of the Anglican Communion, Ufuma, Anambra State, which over the weekend received a cheque of N5m from the state government for the reconstruction of its burnt hostel block.
The fund, presented by governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, brought the total money he had given the convent for the rebuilding of the hostel to N10m.
Making the presentation during a visit to the convent,Obi reinstated the commitment of his administration to entrenching quality education in the state by giving adequate support to all schools, irrespective of ownership status in line with the vision of achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) ahead of time. He disclosed that presently, education gulped about sixty percent of the state’s monthly salary package and urged the schools to explore ways of boosting their internal revenue resources.
The governor said water was a critical component of the state‘s strategy towards achieving the MDGs and expressed worry that the convent has no source of regular water supply, pledging that his government would be part of its borehole scheme.
The commissioner for commerce, industry and tourism,Chuma Okafor, said the governor’s intervention was a further testimony that the administration had come to serve and uplift the people of the state.
